As a valued member of our community, I’m writing to introduce myself to you and to ask for your support once again in my desire to serve you as your District 4 Trustee on the Dallas ISD Board. As you may know, our current trustee, Jaime Resendez, has decided not to seek re-election to the Board to run for Dallas City Council.
My story and passion for quality education remain the same. It started when I was 17 years old as a senior at Booker T. Washington High School. I led the effort to save the Magnet Schools from significant budget cuts. Since then, I have continued my advocacy for students in DISD. I successfully fought against Home Rule Charter to prevent a takeover of our public schools by the Dallas political and business establishment. It is time for us to chart a new course for DISD.
Dallas ISD afforded me a unique opportunity to graduate from a nationally-recognized, first-class high school. I’m running for Trustee so that ALL students in DISD will have the same opportunity for an exemplary education.
As your District 4 Trustee, I will initiate the following:
- Do away with over testing
- Increase Safety in our schools
- Improve our current in-house transportation system
- Oppose taxpayer-funded private school vouchers and the expansion of charter schools
- Attract, support, and retain highly qualified teachers
- Eliminate Teacher Pay for Performance
- More community engagement such as town-halls
I’m passionate about public education. I will bring an objective and independent mindset to the Board to create positive, workable and lasting change that will benefit ALL students in DISD. Please feel free to contact me anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have about my candidacy or platform. I would be honored to receive your support and vote.
